Anja Schuhmann
Anja took her first Pilates lessons in 1995, while she was studying musical theater and dance in London. She later moved to Chicago to continue studying modern dance. After graduating with a BA in Modern Dance, she obtained a Pilates Certificate from Body Balance Inc., a well-known Chicago Pilates Studio in 2000. Since then she has been teaching Pilates in different Pilates Studios, Fitness Clubs and Physical Therapy Practices, first in Chicago, later in Osaka. In 2007, she returned to her hometown, Berlin, and opened Studio A.
Numerous continuing education workshops have influenced and inspired her and add to her teaching:
- Master Workshops with Madeline Black, an internationally known leader in the Pilates method
- Educational conferences, such as Body-Mind-Spirit Expo (the world’s largest educational event for Pilates, Gyrotonic, Feldenkrais and Somatic Movement), the Conference of the German Pilates Association (Deutscher Pilates Verband) and Pilates on Tour
- Franklin Method workshops, a synthesis of imagery, movement and experiential anatomy

Anja is a member of the German Pilates Association (Deutscher Pilates Verband) and she holds the internationally recognised PMA (Pilates Method Alliance) certificate. In 2009 she finished the EUROLAB program for Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies and is now a Certified Laban Movement Analyst (EUROLAB). |
